This Is What I Dreamt

.

I fell a great height into an raft of ice
On a disquieted emerald ocean flecked with frothy white
The waters heaved and swirled
Frigid, bottomless, without any end
They seemed sentient and covered the alien world

There were mountains of ice inscrutably drifting by
So colossal as to be close though very far
Glinting like crystal they passed under a spring-blue sky
That shone bright with a few solitary clouds belying the Arctic mood

The ambience was primordial and imbued with an other-worldly air

…Where was I?
Why was I there?…

Then
My heart froze as I noticed the floe
Had started to melt and sink
And my blood curdled to think of what leviathans lurked below
This is what I dreamt
.
