‘Khuda Tuje Kisi Toofan Se’ – Allama Iqbal (1877-1938)

.
May god acquaint you with a tempest fierce and wild
For the waves of your ocean are too placid and mild
.
.
khuda tuje kisi toofan se ashina karde
(god you some storm with acquaint make)
ki teri behar ke mojun me izteraab nahi
(that your ocean’s waves in turmoil aren’t)
.
.
A life without passion and tragedy is a life underdeveloped. This blessing disguised as a curse reveals a lot about Iqbal’s view on life – that it should be turbulent instead of still; active and energetic instead of passive. It is this forceful idealism that endears him to his admirers.
