‘Dasht-e-tanhai’ by the great Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz

the echo of your voice,
and your glistening lips,
reverberate
in the wilderness of my solitude.

roses bloom in the ashes of your memories,
in the wilderness of my solitude.

the warmth of your breath smoulders with sweetness somewhere nearby,
and beyond the horizon, shimmering drops of your loving gaze fall,
in the wilderness of my solitude.

your memory places its hand on my soul with such tenderness,
that the pain of separation passes,
and the spring of union arrives,
in the wilderness of my solitude.
